Now’s the time to Revive® your lawn

There’s no doubt this has been an exceptionally tough season for lawns. A dry winter carried into spring and summer, leaving many once-green yards with brown patches that keep spreading—even with regular watering. Based on the turf samples we see daily at our Diagnostic Center, this is a common problem for lawns across the area.

Even without the dry winter, heat stress is one of the most common lawn challenges at this time of year. Prolonged high temperatures can intensify existing issues—such as compacted clay soil, inconsistent watering, improper fertilizing, and poor mowing practices—leaving turf thin, weak, or filled with dead patches.

Start with Better Soil

Many turf problems can be traced back to poor soil conditions. Grass planted in our typical clay-based soils often develop shallow roots. When the weather turns hot and dry, those roots can’t deliver enough water, and the grass begins to dry out and die. The solution is to build healthier soil that supports stronger root growth. This includes aeration in spring and fall to reduce compaction. Regular applications of organic material regularly to improve soil health. Using granular Revive® three times a year to help water and nutrients reach the root zone.

How Revive® Helps

Revive® is a local product designed to improve soil structure. Better soil structure encourages stronger root development and improves water and nutrient uptake. When you use Revive®, the water you apply moves down to the roots more effectively, with less loss from evaporation and runoff.

Revive® is also available in liquid form, which is useful for correcting soil compaction and helping restore grass damaged by pet urine. It can also help address grass burn caused by rabbits.

Add Humate for Stronger Results

Used alongside Revive®, humate is another valuable addition to your lawn maintenance schedule. Humate is a highly concentrated soil conditioner derived from decomposed organic plant materials. It helps build healthier soil, increases microbial activity, and improves nutrient uptake. Natural Guard HuMic is an easy way to add humate to your lawn.

The Bottom Line

Both Revive® and HuMic act as chelators, which means they help make nutrients more available to plants. In practical terms, more of the fertilizer you apply can go toward feeding the grass. Like any plant in your garden or landscape, your lawn is only as healthy as the soil it grows in. Regular applications of Revive® and Natural Guard HuMic, combined with sound mowing and watering practices, will help support a healthier lawn through the rest of the season.
